Friday Fun Day

A few Fridays ago, Aiden got to participate in his first Friday Fun Day.  At Sharon Elementary, the PTA sponsors a fun afternoon where students and families can come to eat snow cones, jump on bouncy houses, and pal around with all of their friends and teachers. Aiden loved playing outside of school hours with his “school friends” who are really sweet kids.

Aiden and his BFF Bryson. Bryson is on like a 4th grade reading level…a good influence on Aiden.

I volunteered at the MASH tent where I wrapped fake casts on children’s arm. This sounds really random and I thought no one would want a cast. Man, was I wrong! I wrapped about a thousand arms in an hour! Those kids LOVED it!

Trickster

Scott plays tricks on the boys ALL THE TIME.  He sneaks up on them when he comes home from work everyday. He sneaks towards the shower and bangs on the glass to scare them half to death.  The list goes on and on. Apparently, Aiden has picked up on this family trait. He smeared peanut butter all over Scott’s car door handle a few days ago.  As they say, Scott made his bed and now he must lie in it.

The bait has been set and Scott is falling right into the trap.

Aiden was SO proud of himself!!

Tunnel to Tower

A few weeks ago, Scott and some F3 buddies raced to the top of the Duke Energy Center (50 floors) during a Sept 11th memorial charity race.  The boys and I came out to watch and cheer them on.  Their group of 8 all finished in the top 17 places. Pretty impressive!

The race started early so the boys were pumped to get to wear their PJs out in public.

Court had his own stair race (2 floors) and then challenged Bunny to a mini-stair race. Bunny of course let him win – what a softie!

Mother’s Day 2016

I don’t do a lot of social media, no Facebook, no twitter, only this blog really, and the occasional recipe from pinterest.  However, I have randomly come across a few quotes for mother’s day this year that are salient to me this year.  Hold on, it’s about to get deep (not really though). Cousin Hunter told me she hates sappy social media posts about how great moms are…Cousin Hunter, stop reading now.

“Children are the anchors that hold a mother to life.” Sophocles
Ain’t that the truth?  Aiden and Court ground me in such a profound way.  They remind me that the most important thing is to be fully present when I am with them.

This kid was SO proud of his mother’s day gift to me: a hand decorated and painted pot with a mint plant! Am I spoiled or what?!

IMG_8962

Aiden made me a “pinch pot” which is a little clay pot he made by hand and a coupon book full of little jobs he can do for me around the house. Sweet.

“I got to grow up with a mother who taught me to believe in me.” Antonio Villaraigosa
This quote makes me think of my mom who definitely gave me the confidence to do things I never dreamed that I would be able to do.  I only hope that I can do the same for my kids. We were lucky enough to be able to take her to dinner Saturday night to celebrate what a wonderful mom she is to me and what a great Grandma she is to Aiden and Court.

Sadly, I got no photos of my mom at our Mother’s Day dinner!  Ugh!  However, I was able to get a picture of another great mom…Granny!  We fixed her breakfast on Sunday morning.  Doesn’t she look beautiful!

To all you Mamas out there and to Bubba who weren’t able to visit with on Mother’s Day weekend, hope you had a great one and keep up the good work, will ya?!
