Silly boy

This was the scene when I came home after yoga while Aunt Kimmie was babysitting Aiden. His first ponytail!

And these were the photos that Scott took of Aiden when it was his turn to get him ready for baby camp. Apparently that includes hair styling.

“Hello Day”

Aiden is hilarious with his animal sounds these days. Everything has a sound, not a name.  One of our favorite activities (especially on the weekend mornings) is for him to read in bed with us.  Here we are reading one of his fave books, “Hello Day” complete with all the animal sounds.

The last hurrah (for real this time)

This weekend, we fudged on the doctor’s orders to not travel anymore (don’t worry, it was only by 3 days).  Everyone knows how much we love the beach (especially Scott) so we took one last trip down to the Charleston beach house.  You know, to soak up some sunshine, stay cool in the water, and generally invade Bub’s privacy (thanks Bub!).  Sadly, this is really the last time we’ll be headed down there for a while.  We truly enjoyed every minute.  Luckily, the Scerri family was also down there so Aiden had some friends to run around with as well!  Scott and I also got to celebrate our anniversary (albeit a little early this year) with dinner at the Peninsula Grill which has become our favorite anniversary tradition.  Ahhh…I can still taste the coconut cake!  (Thanks again for the babysitting services Bub!)

Aiden has gotten pretty good at this little trick.

Carson and John Scerri giving it a go! Mindi and Grant are cheering him on along with Scott and Aiden.

Our beach boys

Unfortunately, my iPhone photo instructions were less than optimal, so poor Carson gets his head cut off in this photo. But it was too cute not to put up anyway!

All dressed up for the anniversary dinner

The first of our two desserts. Since we couldn't fit any more food into our tummies after dinner at the Peninsula Grill, we got coconut cake to go. So the chef made us a complimentary dessert platter with small banana truffles - yum!

The bump in full effect. "Chuck Norris" is scheduled to make his or her appearance in 27 days...yikes!!!

Weekend in the mountains

This past weekend, we took a trip to the mountains to visit Granny and Granddaddy and both sets of Aiden’s grandparents with the primary purpose of completing one task – making jam.  Granny has been trying to find a time to hand down the tradition of making homemade jam to me for a while now and our timing has just never worked out…until now.  But now I’ve got it!  It’s a breeze!  We made 11 and a half jars of peach jam and I got the thumbs up from the crowd as far as taste goes.  Just give this girl some fruit and I’ll make you jam.  Thanks Granny!

Aiden loves exploring Granny and Granddaddy’s farm.  We rode the Gator with my dad, Aiden, Bruno, and I in the back while Scott and my Mom rode in the front and toured all around.  Aiden picked and ate his first blueberries right off the bush, helped pick beans, “helped” make jam, and pointed at countless butterflies (while Bruno chased them) around the farm.  We also got to take our first official hike with him (I am embarrassed that it has taken us this long!).  We hiked up Dupont Forest and saw lots of waterfalls and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.  We even got to pet (and sit on) some horses that were stopped along the trail – what a surprise treat for Aiden!

Stopping to smell the flowers

It had rained the day before we got there so Aiden was a bit of a mudball by the end of his exploring on the farm.

Aiden running to give me the four leaf clover that Scott found. With Chuck Norris on the way, we need all the luck we can get in the next few months!

Aiden and I looking over the falls. Try to ignore my sweet outfit (I hadn't planned on hiking much while pregnant)

Aiden's first horse "ride" (it was more like just a sit than a ride but whatever!)

After all the excitement, Aiden slept the hike back. What a quitter!

Bye bye beach

Sadly my days of traveling are coming to a close as the doctors are making me stay within the Charlotte vicinity starting July 20th.  So this past weekend, we interrupted Bub and Margey Frederick’s girls weekend and invaded the beach house in Charleston for one last hoorah for the summer before baby #2’s arrival. Unfortunately, Margey had to leave earlier than we had hoped (it was great to see you “Nana Margey”!!!).  But we still had fun for the remainder of the weekend spashing in the pool, digging holes in the sand, and just generally lounging at the beach house.  Ahhhhh…summer.

We've discovered that Aiden keeps himself very entertained with a huge hole in the sand. Go figure. So the digging begins.

And the digging continues. Bruno decides to entertain himself with a little frisbee action on the beach - his favorite activity.

If you dig deep enough, you hit a little water and that's where things get interesting.

A mud monster!!! (And here's a belly shot for all those who have been asking. Me and "Chuck Norris" in all of our glory)

Burning time at the playground before the pool opens.

Loving life on the splash pad by the pool. As we left, Aiden said "Bye Bye Beach"; we'll see you in a few months!

Journaling

Since I find myself using this blog more and more like a journal than just a way to post photos, I need to include a little running joke that Scott and I have.  Scott always watches Aiden do silly things and he says to me, “Katie, he’s just not very smart!”  (Half joking and half serious because let’s face it, he does some pretty stupid things.)  So in May (I keep forgetting to post this so it is a bit belated), we got an update from Aiden’s baby camp classroom.  Each month they send a newsletter with kid’s milestones and what they are doing in the classroom.  Here are some examples from other children in Aiden’s class:

Chloe is able to clearly and distinctly recite each letter of the alphabet.

Sasha can now sing a more distinguished ABC song and can count to ten correctly.

Brendan does a great job identifying his colors.

Killian has been working hard on using the potty and is close to being fully potty trained.

And then we see Aiden’s:

Aiden really enjoys a good game of peek-a-boo or being chased by his friends.

Hmmm….not our proudest moment as parents.  Maybe athletics will be his strong suit?

Honing his horseback riding skills (thanks for the "Daddle saddle" Aunt Cheryl!)

See? He does enjoy reading!

Maybe next month, Aiden’s report will be that he is starting to learn how to do a forward roll!

Happy 4th of July!

I had to work this weekend and July 4th.  So, we had a nice weekend of hanging out around the house (well, at least, Aiden and Scott did) with lots of nice long walks and quality time outside.  And what is better to celebrate the 4th of July than with a kiddie pool and a game of water-swing?!
